Congratulations to Homestead teacher Edmond Kwong for his receipt of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Key award. Mr. Kwong was presented the Gold Key at a luncheon on Columbia University's Morningside campus in New York City on March 20, 2015 as part of the CSPA's 91st spring convention.

Recipients were considered for their contribution to the college and school press as best exemplified by the citation on the certificates accompanying the Keys which reads:

“In recognition of the outstanding devotion to the cause of the school press, encouragement to the student editors in their several endeavors, service above and beyond the call of delegated duty, leadership in the field of education, and support of the high ideals from which the Association has drawn its strength and inspiration.”

The American Math Competition (AMC 10 and 12)  is one of the largest high school math competitions in the United States.  It is run by the Math Association of America...www.maa.org. The competition extends to schools world wide as well.

Every year, tens of thousands of high school students take the AMC 10/12. This year, 55,000 took the AMC 12A (the first of two of the same test...there is an A and a B test...the A takes place at the beginning of February and the B at the end of February) and 67,000 took the AMC 10A.

The HHS Math Club finished 22nd in the AMC 12A in the United States out of 2216 schools with 11 students qualifying to take the next round of tests called the AIME.

HHS Spirit Team earned 10th place out of 22 teams at the 2015 USA National Championship

Homestead’s Cheer Squad competed this past weekend in Anaheim at the USA National Championships. They performed their routine nearly flawlessly, earning 10th place out of 22 teams. The ladies missed the final round by only a few points.

This is an amazing accomplishment for their 1st year competing, their 3rd competition of the year and first National Championship competition!

FUHSD Art Show April 11th - 30th, 2015

Hello Homestead Community~

Construction of the Cafeteria and Main Quad is well underway. The initial part of the project includes construction of a quad situated at the middle of the campus. Once completed, this quad will become the main thoroughfare for the campus. It will include an exterior performing stage as well as numerous seating which provides outdoor collaboration areas for student and staff to enjoy. Our target is to complete this portion of the project by Monday, August 18, the first day of school.

The other part of the project currently in construction is the new Cafeteria and Classrooms Building. Our target is to complete the building by April 2015.

We thank the Homestead community for the financial support which enables these new facilities to be constructed to provide a strong school environment for our growing student population.
