HELP! HELP! HELP! Volunteers Needed!
(Eileen Chun)
We have a great number of shortages for volunteers in all upcoming events.
· During the course of the band year, we have many volunteer needs (Back to School Potatoes, Football Concessions, Field Shows, Concerts, and Banquets). For football concessions (our largest moneymaking event) alone, we require at least 70 volunteers per game.
· With over 200 band/guard members, we are asking that each family consider volunteering for 2 shifts during the football season, 1 shift for the Field Shows, and 1 shift at the remainder events.
· We have a great group of parent volunteers who work very well together and we welcome anyone who wants to help.
· To facilitate the process, we are using VolunteerSpot.com this year. We only require your name to sign up (email for online confirmation). You do not need to register. All opportunities are posted (from Aug-May).http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/962345632561568076
This link will also be posted on the volunteer website at www.hhsmbvolunteer.comule.com.
Just a reminder to all Music Booster volunteers; everyone must pay to get into the football games, volunteering or not. Also, all food prep volunteers (BBQ/Nachos/Potatoes) must wear a head covering (scarf or hat). If you go to all the games, you can purchase a special pass that will save you some money. If you only go to a few games, it's better to just pay the normal gate fee.
If you filled out an orange volunteer sheet (included with your band packet), you should have received an email confirmation of your assignments by now. IF YOU DID NOT get that confirmation, please email me (hhsmbvolunteer@gmail.com). I may have gotten your email information wrong. Thanks for your understanding!

SPECIAL RECYCLING & WASTE-MANAGEMENT NOTICE REGARDING LAST SATURDAY’S BAND POTLUCK
Big Kudos to Jackie Browning and the Potluck Organizers!
(Ken Lamarche)
For many years now, the HHS Music Programs have tried to make a priority of recycling and waste management. With such a large percentage of Homestead students involved in the music programs, it is only appropriate to demonstrate our responsibility when organizing large events.
I'm pleased to announce that this year is starting out as a banner year for HHSMB waste-management efforts.
As a comparison...
In 2006, the HHS Marching Band and Color Guard had 187 members. The Volunteer Fair for that year generated 30 bags of garbage.
In 2011, the HHS Marching Band & Color Guard has 251 members. In this year's Band Potluck held this last Saturday, there were 3 bags of garbage for the entire event.
This amazing result is thanks, in part, to improved waste-management on the campus. But more fundamentally, it is thanks to an AWESOME source-sorting demonstration by our students & volunteers.
Another wonderful metric is that our total amount of material (Compostables, + Recyclables, + garbage) was 28 bags. This means that even though we have 30% more students in the band & guard than we had in 2006, we are actually generating less waste materials. Observations show that the students are increasingly aware of wasted food products. And our food prep folks are constantly fighting back extra packaging while re-using materials.
Congratulations all-around on an amazing effort at this year's Band Potluck. We're ready for another great year of trash busting! GO HHSMB!
