a traffic message from the office of the sheriff

Fall is in the air and school is about to start.  The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that traffic is going to be a nuisance the first couple weeks of school.  The Traffic Enforcement Unit will be in full force enforcing traffic laws and would like to offer a few suggestions to make the morning commute a little easier.

  1. Leave a little earlier and/or park a couple blocks away and allow your child to walk to school.
  2. Be patient.  Everyone else is also trying to drop off their child.
  3. Watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists.
  4. If you are traveling eastbound on Homestead, you are only able to make a right hand turn into the drop off area from the right hand lane.  DO NOT make a right hand turn from the fast lane going eastbound, you will be cited.
  5. The speed limit in school zones is 25 mph.
  6. Please check and recheck your rear view mirror before backing out of your driveway.  Numerous kids will be riding their bike to school and in the past we have responded to accidents involving vehicles and bicycles where a child was hit by a vehicle backing out of their driveway.

We would like to make sure everyone arrives at school safely and without any frustration.  If you have any traffic related questions please call our office at 408-868-6600.

Off Campus Waiver Applications for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, with a hole in their schedule, will be available starting Tuesday, September 5th, in the Guidance Office.

Applications for 9th grade student will be available on Monday, October 2nd.

Until then, students must remain on campus during their empty periods.

When you turn in your completed application, please allow 24 hours for processing before returning to pick up and sign for your waiver.

Attention all bikers entering campus from the student parking lot side. Due to construction, you will no longer be able to access the bike racks from the access road. You need to enter campus through the student parking lot entrance at Homestead and Kennewick. Ride directly back to the sidewalk adjacent to the tennis courts and walk your bikes from there to the bike rack. We will be working to make a more permanent path, but in the mean time, please pay attention to staff and signs.

Attention all drivers. If you are parking your car on the streets off campus, please remember to be respectful of our neighbors. Never block a driveway when parking and please be careful when driving and parking in residential areas.

pardon our dust!

In our ongoing efforts to improve the facilities at Homestead High School supported by Measure K improvement funds, we will soon be embarking on a new phase of an infrastructure modernization project at the front of the school, including an Innovation Hub that will house computer labs, digital arts, a maker space and more. Construction will begin during summer 2017.
